Educational reform has affected many demographics within our population over the years. In colonial America there were very few who had the opportunity to go to school, during the pre-Civil War years there was little to no chance of going to school if you were an African-American or a woman, the reconstruction era offered much segregation and racist practices, and the second half of the 20th century offered integration and a movement onward into a real fight for equality that we are still struggling with this present day. This timeline is an attempt to depict the events in history and reforms made in education that have lead to a greater sense of racial equality in the current educational system. This includes not only racial equality for African-Americans but all races/nationalities that exist in the United States. The dates consist of major events in the struggle for equality in education, but many of these dates were a part of the greater struggle for equality in society.
